Default Question for passengers and drivers

I am going to be purchasing both a Sundowner seat and a Low size backrest for the ole' sporty. Sundowner is $223 , Backrest is $196 so they are close in price. I plan on purchasing 1 or the other right now and the one I don't purchase in a month or two if all goes right. The lady wants a backrest but i'm sure she wouldn't mind the seat either. From what I hear the sundowner would add some decent comfort for me. Which one would you guys purchase first? Also she probably won't be doing much riding until it gets a little warmer here in Ohio. Looking for insight from passengers as well as to which you prefer, seat comfort, or backrest. Thanks

IMFUO - grab the seat first time 'round, then the back stop. But then, as you stated, you and I aren't ridin' beotch on it. But it is your hinder doing the majority of the miles, right now. Again, JMFUO.

I'd say backrest first if'n you want the ole lady to ride with ya, the seat if'n ya don't.
A close friend of mine has an FLHX and his wife was complaining about not being able to ride for long on it so he got a backrest and she says she is fine now.

Yea i'm thinking seat right now. It is going to be 35-45 degrees at night now when I go to work so i'm going to start riding. Wear 3 layers at work anyways(produce warehouse deal, cold when I'm not in the oleoffice)so it shouldn't be too cold if I don't take the highway.25 Mile ride each way so hopefullly the sundowner will make big difference in the comfort. I am thinking she won't wanna ride anyways until it warms up to 60 or so. Plus by selling the passenger pillion on ebay that should cover part of the backrest cost which would help out as well I think. Anyone else have an opinion feel free to let me know.

I put a Sundowner on my Sportster and it made a big difference in comfort for my wife. She doesn't have much built-in padding, and the stock pillion seat just killed her backside. You'll like the Sundowner, it's a nice seat at a decent price.

A word of advice about the backrest: see if you can get a bike with a backrest for your lady to sit on. I bought the low backrest and it was just plain uncomfortable for my wife, it pressed far too low on her back. I had to change it out for the tall one. Now IMO the tall backrest looks like crap, but if I can't have both comfort and looks, I'll go for the comfort.

I'd get the seat; along with the backrest (and what size to get will be easier to determine with the seat on) you may want to make it a detachable backrest/rack combo...my wife really likes the Sundowner...

I'd run with the seat first.

Seat, backrest, and then replace the garbage stock shocks with Progressives.

See the photo below for my setup. You might also want to post this in the Sportser section as you will probably get more feedback there.

Being a passenger (for now) on the back of our Sporty, I would say if there is anyway that you can swing both, do that. She (and her butt and back) will thank you for it. My husband likes the seat much better and also like the fact that I am not leaning on him and making his back hurt. The only thing we are thinking about changing is putting a touring backrest on so I am more comfy. Take a look at my sig pic for our set-up.
