Default new wheels, opinion

Hey all,

Just ordered my new 40 spoke wheels from black bike wheels, for my 07 night train. Now, the guy I spoke to was steering me toward the 18x7 rear wheel, with a 200 tire. I wanted the 18, but wasn't aware of the fact that a 200 would fit well on a 7" wide rim. Manufacturer recommends the 200 go on a 6.5" wide wheel, but he assured me it fits, and looks cool with the offset spokes (anyone seen one before?).

Similar situation with the front, I'm putting a 90 tire on a 21x3 wheel. Recommended for that tire is the 2.5 wheel, but again he assured me it fits. He even went so far as to say it would fit on a 3.5 if you wanted to, but wouldn't suggest that.

Basically I'm just looking for opinions, cuz I was excited about it until some people started saying "oh there's no way that would ever fit, or it's not supposed to fit". Now I'm second guessing myself. Should I trust the wheel guy, or the HD community? I can probably still change the order to slightly more narrow rims if I call today.

Thanks

I'm sure the tires will fit. It won't be the best setup for ultimate handling, but unless you carve canyons like I like to, you'll be fine.
My bike, when I got it,had a 16x5.5" rear wheel with a 150 Avon stretched across it, and it actually rode fine. Now that I've got a 3" (Black Bike wheels, Mark's recomendation) with the same size tire, it handles much better, of course. I'd say go for it!

Maybe double check with a few different tyre manufacturers, that way you keep your options open for tyre choices in the future.

I'm more into cruising than ripping through corners, but at the same time, I don't want to sacrifice too much handling. Never know when you'll need to make a quick decision, and swerve or something.

Might call back later and set the rear back to a 6.5, not that it's HUGE difference from the 7, but at least it's at the recommended width for the tire.

Thanks for the input.
