Default Another jacket question

OK, maybe the same question but framed in a different light.

I like the Fox Creek Vented Racing jacket at $412 (w/free shipping). I also like the FXRG leather from HD, though not for $600.

So, my question is, if I could get the dealer to sell me the FXRG at the same price (within $20 or so), which way would you go?

Never owned a fox creek but I hear they are quality.
I do own a FXRG and the quality is top notch and it has a 5 year warranty.
I wear the fxrg from as cold as it gets to about 75/80*... It is good for warmer, but I usually wear a mesh at that point.

I have a Fox Creek Leather Vented Reflector Jacket being custom fit at the moment. So I am a biased source.

But, with all objectivity I can muster....the FXRG is a real nice jacket. I almost bought one a couple of years back. In my opinion the Fox Creek jacket is superior. It has higher quality leather and is better built. The leather is thicker and more supple. And it has heavy duty brass zippers. Just a real nice quality jacket. The vents (the new model has arm vents too) and zip in liner make it a very versatile jacket.

I chose the reflector version because I not only think the pinstripes look nice, I like the fact they reflect.

Depending on your size.. You can order from Chicago HD for 20% off - Knocks $100 off MSRP
S - L = $476 and XL - XXL = $496
Tall Sizes range from $488 to $508
Here's the links
Standard sizes:

Also, Lake Shore Harley has 20% off through their site: www.lshd1.com
Lake Shore has FREE shipping on orders over $500 - ENDS 3/31/08

There's other sites that offer 20% as well...

I'm currently flipping a coin between the FXRG Leather & Nylon version. Nylon is $200 cheaper and I've read positive comments about both.

Well, after some more consideration, I decided to order a Fox Creek Vented Racing Jacket this afternoon. Things that swayed me:

1. Overwhelming positive feedback from you guys and everywhere else I looked.
2. Warranty. Fox Creek has a lifetime warranty. The FXRG has 5 years, which I think is very good and didn't disqualify it compared to the lifetime of Fox Creek. Vanson, by all accounts, one of the best, only stands behind their jackets for 1 year. They may be as good as Fox or HD, but their willingness to stand behind it says a lot, to me, at least.
3. Price. HD, at $600 was way too much. Even if I could have talked a dealer into a 30% discount (making it $416 to FC's $412), I'd still be paying either shipping or tax at that discount rate. At 20% off, the FXRG is $476. Fox Creek gave me a 10% military discount, so that made the cost $371, a hundred bucks better what you can easily find the FXRG for.

Now, once it gets here, if, on the off chance, I think it's just not as good as the FXRG, I can always return the Fox Creek with no questions asked for the first 30 days; another plus in their column that HD doesn't offer. Something tells me I won't be exercising this option.

I just got a Fox Creek myself. It isthe classic biker jacket, not the racer. Iused to thinkmy old jacket was heavy and now it feels like a windbreaker by comparison. The Fox Creek leather is so thick and yet soft at the same time. As a leatherworker, I do not see how that leather could be improved upon. No break in required, although I know it'll get even better with time. Also, with the vents open, I am still comfortable at 80 degrees. That is the highest temp I've had to test it in yet. I don't think you'll regret your decision at all.
