I bought a leftover leather jacket but I dont really care for it. I also found a mesh jacket (HD) that I love.

It is really a personal thing. I have all three. Mesh and textile will be cheaper. The Mesh is by far the coolest. Even compared to perforated leather. Depending on how much you ride you will find out tht there is no ONE jacket that will work in all weather.

I found a closeout leather S&S jacket for 163 and a mesh for 60.

I have a gorgeous leather jacket that I love. I wear it about 10% of the season cause it's too warm over 65 degrees. Then I have a shabby textile that I wear most of the time, cause it's good from 40-80 degrees. You wanna look good or feel good? I'm at an age where I go for feelin' good. There are excellent textile/mesh jackets for a lot less than leather.

I have an HD FXRG textile jacket that has a zip off outer cover that opens to mesh. I have used it up to 105 degrees and down to 40 (below that, I have my Gerbings liners in). I've owned it a good many years.

I also own an Icon leather jacket that is as bullet proof as I could ever want, but it sucks above 80 degrees...

I have 2 leather jackets. One, a horsehide jacket that just keeps getting better. The other is a perforated Fox Creek jacket that is for warmer rides. I also have an Aerostich riding suit, which is an armored textile suit. It probably doesn't matter which way you go, as long as you keep sliding on pavement in mind. Leather does do a great job in that category. You don't see many textile motorcycle racing suits.

I love my mesh. Have leather too, but rarely wear it.

Textile seems to be the middle of the road here.leather great for sliding i get that don't plan on it but who does. I want comfort too. Don't want to be so hot that riding isnt' enjoyable but also want safety.
