hi everyone i am redoing my dads bike for him its an 1982 fxwg and its a beautiful bike. However for some reason i can't figure out why it won't run right. so
i got the bike runnin so i went ahead and bought a new air filter and changed the oil and all the regulars that you would do to maintence a bike. I also got the carb rebuilt and it works great.
My problem is that i can start the bike just fine and it idles great and while in neutral i can rev it up and it sounds great but as soon as i get on in and put it in gear and go to take off it starts running like crab skippin and missing, andi can't figure out what the prroblem is.
like i said i rebuilt the carb its got new plugs and new air filter and it still has this problem, so if anyone could hit me up with some advise i would sure appreciate it.
To me....making a snap diagnosis, I would say it sounds like either a ignition issue, or like the others said it could be a fuel issue...
Will it rev up in neutral.....and if it does will it rev all the way up w/out breaking up? If it does rev up in N, then I think you could rule out ignition.
What about the push rods? Did you rebuild the top end? If they are adjustable, you may have them a might too long on the intake side preventing a good seal. I did this on my wife's EVO a while back. It started fine, idled fine and even revved, but once I put a load on it, it ran like crap. Turned out the intake valves weren't seating all the way and I was sucking spent exhaust back into the cylinders.
