Default Calling it quits

It's a sad day for me. As much as I enjoyed riding, I decided I would rather be alive and be able to enjoy with my grandkids. I am going to give up the Harley and quit riding. As I sit here trying to type this, my shoulder is broken, ribs are cracked road rash in several places and generally hurt like hell. Just got out of 4 days in the hospital.
I had just pulled out of the local H-D dealer heading home. Traffic moving smoothly when some one pulls into my lane and stops! With no time to react, I went down. The bike slid 40-50 ft and I bounced about the same. No one stopped to help. Traffic just drove around me! Some guys from a car dealership ran out and directed traffic and helped me until the ambulance got there. No witnesses as everyone just kept driving.
I was lucky...this time.
I will still be hanging around the board though. Everyone ride safe!

Sorry to hear about your wreck. Glad the injuries were not worse than they were. I understand your feelings, but perhaps in a few weeks when you've had some time to reflect and heal, you might reconsider your decision. Many of us have been there. Whatever you decide about future riding is between you and your family. Heal quickly!

WoW - I hope you recover fast- like in two shakes of a lamb's tail...

I have been there TWICE - it really has everything to do with WHERE you ride I wouldn't be riding again if I lived in a densely populated area NO WAY, NO HOW.

People S U C K and your story just proves it -

Again sorry to hear of your ill fortune, glad your still with us, heal quickly and happy trails...

So gald to hear you are Ok. I was there about 20 years ago. I was on the coastal HWY 101 in Oregon around Seaside. A car it us and I was left in the middle of the raod. I heard tires squealing and Yelled for some one to get me out of the road. I broke my jaw in 3 places and lost the left side of my face. I could not see. Finally my buddy driving came and got me. everyone just stood and and staired. I am OK today and and went through the same process. Give yourself time to heal and really communicate with your family. You will make the choice that is right for you. Get well soon. and keep in touch no matter what you decide.

Penny

First and most importantly get well soon. I understand that you are thinking about your family and don't want to put them through the worry of what might happen if somebody pulled a similar stunt in the future.
Just over 20 years ago, I was wiped out by a blind cager and I swore I would never ride again. The moment I was given a clean bill of health, I had a change of heart and a week later I was back on two wheels.
Whatever you decide to do, don't rush into a decision you may regret further down the the line but if you do decide to give up riding, well, I'm glad you are going to stay in touch with the forum and best wishes for the future.

I hope your injuries heal quickly. Unfortunately the emotional ones take a long time. I’ve been lucky enough to avoid many potential incidences myself, but I do know the fear. May 22nd last year I watched a friend die from about 20 feet away. His Fatboy went into a headshake, he crossed over the line, and hit a ¾ ton Chevy head on at about 50 mph. The accident still replays in my mind. It took me about two weeks to even wash the blood and oil off my bike. It is really hard getting back on after something like that happens. Whatever you decide, take your time. Give yourself a good six months or more before you make any decisions. What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.
