Glad to hear you make it out ok, it could have been a bad day for you. Great you kept a level head afterward. I have not had so much luck and always seem to have fingers flying and garbage spewing from my mouth.
Fact of the matter is you probably left an even bigger impression on her by not yelling. She will remember expecting it and not getting it.Will that make her pay more attention to bikes? Let's hope so
Good for you for keeping you cool. She probably has more respect for motorcycles and riders now. Kudos to her too for staying around. She knew she messed up and was willing to accept what she had coming. Glad it was you instead of me. She might still have a poor impression of motorcyclists, or she could have shot me.
So I was out for a short cruise down to the ocean to get some air. I stopped at my favorite spot down by the ocean and laid back on a giant rock soaking up the sun for a bit. I almost fell asleep it was so pleasant. On the way home I opted to take the streets as opposed to the freeway as I saw there was a traffic jam while I was on the way out to the beach already. So I find the best way to avoid traffic and get back to my home. On a street which is usually nearly deserted a woman in a Honda CR-V decided to turn left into a a parking lot right in front of me. I couldn't have been more than 15 feet from her when she initiated the turn. I am aware that this kind of thing happens often and it has been a while since it has happened to me. I started to scream at the top of my lungs and hit the brakes hard. The rear started to slide out and jsut as I thought to myself "this is gonna hurt...bad) she saw and or heard me and stopped. I swerved around her and then I wondered if I was going to be able to keep the bike upright, and then everything was just fine again. Phwew. Serious pucker factor action here. I must have been going about 30 mph or so, and maybe the fact that I wasn't going faster saved me.
Immediately I thought that she needed a piece of my mind. I pulled into the parking lot that she was in and pulled up next to her open window. Instead of yelling and cursing her out, I asked her to please watch out for motorcycles. She said she was very sorry and she was still freaked out. I again asked her to be careful and watch for bikes. And off I went. She wasn't even on a cell phone or anything. Anyway, chalk that up to one more experience on a bike. It looked to me like she was expecting me to YELL at her and that is why I didn't. We can be civilized, even we almost just got killed.
Glad you were able to save yourself and maintain a wise zen master response!
Jammer.... the dual modulating headlight is a good idea but ifI may relate some experience I drive a big white ford expedition at work with modulating head lights a red light bar on top and a siren and still have a hard time getting morons to pull over ....nothing beats caution.
