So I was out for a short cruise down to the ocean to get some air. I stopped at my favorite spot down by the ocean and laid back on a giant rock soaking up the sun for a bit. I almost fell asleep it was so pleasant. On the way home I opted to take the streets as opposed to the freeway as I saw there was a traffic jam while I was on the way out to the beach already. So I find the best way to avoid traffic and get back to my home. On a street which is usually nearly deserted a woman in a Honda CR-V decided to turn left into a a parking lot right in front of me. I couldn't have been more than 15 feet from her when she initiated the turn. I am aware that this kind of thing happens often and it has been a while since it has happened to me. I started to scream at the top of my lungs and hit the brakes hard. The rear started to slide out and jsut as I thought to myself "this is gonna hurt...bad) she saw and or heard me and stopped. I swerved around her and then I wondered if I was going to be able to keep the bike upright, and then everything was just fine again. Phwew. Serious pucker factor action here. I must have been going about 30 mph or so, and maybe the fact that I wasn't going faster saved me.
Immediately I thought that she needed a piece of my mind. I pulled into the parking lot that she was in and pulled up next to her open window. Instead of yelling and cursing her out, I asked her to please watch out for motorcycles. She said she was very sorry and she was still freaked out. I again asked her to be careful and watch for bikes. And off I went. She wasn't even on a cell phone or anything. Anyway, chalk that up to one more experience on a bike. It looked to me like she was expecting me to YELL at her and that is why I didn't. We can be civilized, even we almost just got killed.
I would have a hard being nice after something like that. But I should start trying to be better then I have been. Thanks for your story. I'm glad your OK.
Down in Vegas the other day, rolling down Spring Mountain, a dude in a BMW car did a u-turn right in front of me. If he'd been a second later stating the yewie, I would have hit him. I don't know how visible I can be, riding a white Ultra with all the lights blazing. The dude came alongside of me with his window down. I think he wanted to apologize, but I didn't give him the chance. Just said "dumb move" and went on. anubiss did it better than me. No doubt it freaked out the BMW driver too.[>:]
Good deal reacting to dodge her, and good for you for not just telling her off. She's more likely to heed the advice since you gave it to her rationally.
