May you can talk them into doing a pre 1000 mile check and oil change while they have the bike. My dealer did when I took it in for warranty work at around 2500 miles shortly after buying it and I didn't even ask them too.
i will see when i call monday, i was thinking about telling them to do a pre check, and if they tell me that its gonna be more then a week, i want a loaner bike...if not, i will keep the bike till they get the tank and ride it.
I make it a point to never complain when my bike or truck breaks down in the garage or my boat breaks down while tied to the dock or my furnace quits in the summer or my air conditioner quits in January. It could be worse.....much worse. Just sayin...
Unless they really get the factory to put a rush on a tank you're looking at more than a week for sure. Sorry to hear about your troubles. A bike breaking always sucks, but it's worse when it's brand new.
At least it didn't happen when you were on a trip. It does suck but could have been worse. I would try to get a loaner because you will be waiting a good while for that tank.
What took you so long 400 miles. I had to replace my jugs only after 100 miles. Just kidding I hope you get the problem fixed and quickly but as others have said painted parts take for ever.

You had a problem with the bike. You called the dealer - they picked your bike up without a hassle, and are ordering the replacement parts without a hassle. Sucks to be without the bike for awhile, but consider all of the above had they given you a hassle. Sounds like everything is going the way it should when a problem arises with something new. In a perfect world, a warranty wouldn't be needed, but, this isn't... It's a man-made machine, and things do go wrong in the factory. It'll be back before you know it, and you'll have a new tank.
