Yes, I know it’s a Harley forum, but….Some of you Indian guys might enjoy some the following. The materials speak volumes as to the longevity of these old bikes. Also, I recently read where one of our local AMCA members just rode his 47 Chief over 7,000 miles in a little over three weeks, many hours of that at 75-80 mph. No do doubt but that they are tough old birds, bike and rider alike. Be sure to check this Norway riders photographs out, he takes some great ones. The first couple segments of “Going Places” has some great Indian ride footage.

1944 Indian Motorcycle Riding in Iceland

In august 2007 I rode for 3 1/2 weeks with the "chief bluesmoke" Indian in Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Just a short video from the rough gravel roads of Icelands interior. These old bikes handle much better than people know. The rider sit on a wide seat with springs, so it's rather comfortable also.

A trip report can be found here:

Had a good friend who passed a year and a half ago at the age of 95 who was a Indian and HD Factory Racer in the 20's and 30's... Flat tracker I think, he loved the Indians more because they were more reliable, but the HD's usually beat them. He loved to ride and tell stories... I should have had a tape recorder on me... What a hell of a guy.

The power plus 100 had some flaws reported. Soft cranks and bearing issues. A few specialized shops were fixing these problems before they became a big problem. I have always loved the Indian Chiefs with there full fenders and distinctive styling. Only other issue I have heard is the insurance cost since its an out of production bike.

Went to their website. Really nice looking bike. A lot will depend on where they put their dealerships. I think that one in Central New York might have a good shot. Something different, old school, and American made. Don't know too many people though who will plop down a $1000 deposit on an unseen bike at an unknown final price with no idea where on Earth the nearest dealer might end up.

There have been some issues with the PP110 motors crank bearings, oil pump, head gaskets just to name a few. I have seen some with less than 5000 miles go bad to these problems but have heard others that have over 60,000 miles on them with no problems at all. If you looking at getting one I would ask what has been done to the motor etc. just to be sure.
