Last Saturday I was out for a nice ride along the Orange County coastal area. Heading north on P.C.H. cruising past Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, I encounter tons of bees, literally pinging off my arms, sunglasses and helmet. I couldn't stop, traffic was thick so I just powered through them. Bad time to not have my windshield on.
Anyone else ride in this area last weekend? The heat must have stirred them up. Crazy thing is, I didn't get 1 sting!!
I had one fly up into my helmut---get right on the end on my nose, and friggin nail me, going to fast in traffic to let go, no fun, felt like someone had a lit cigar on the end of my nose---Cap
Yeah I basically take one to the face everyday on my way home. Usually the warmer it is, the more are out. I have notice there are a lot more out flying around but I think it has something to do with all the fires. Maybe they are having to move or seek out new areas for pollination.

Wow that's a huge swarm!! That's almost unbeelievalble sorry I couldn't resist,,, my luck everyone of them would have stung me!!! Glad they didn't get you.
Capt,,that makes my nose hurt just reading about it.
The bees are out because the flowers are out. I get one or two stings a year. Last year I got one stuck in my ear under the skid lid strap. I was laughing and gritting my teeth at the same tiime. Beatsgoing to thedentist.
The ones you gotta watch out for (San Bernadino Mountains, Route 18, Lake Arrowhead) are the yellow jackets (We call the mmeat bees because they'll fight you for your steak). They go to town on you like a biting sewing machine. The hang on with their mandables and just pump you full of venom. I got nailed buy 3 or 4 last year weedwhacking. 10 stings. Arm swelled up 2X. Benzadril doesn't work. Loradatine took swelling down in 20 min. Its in my saddle bag.
I encountered the same on a ride last Sunday. As posted by Cray49a, the fruit trees are in bloom and the bees are polinating the fruit. It does not make it any better tho ...

I caught one right in the throat, just below my chin just above my adams apple Sunday at 60mph. Darn near knocked me off my bike. It stopped hurting after about 30 minutes and I didn't let it ruin my ride.A few years ago I had a red wasp go up my sleeve. It got me 3 times on the arm and 3 times on the back. That one hurt. Moistened a little cigarette tabacco with some spit , slapped it on , took the pain right out. I don't smoke now so I just let the bee sting do its own thing.
