There was a thread in the Softail section I think it was... "Don't Ask Me How I Know... I Just Know". Same idea as this one but has about 5 pages of useful "experiance". You should search for it.
Seriously.....go find this thread...you will laugh your butt off picturing some of these mishaps......it happens to everyone....this one guy in our chapter has logged probably 500,000 miles +, and he rode up to the dealership one day in front of a crowd, forgot to put the stand down, and over he went...man did they ride him hard....
[sm=bustedsign.gif]My old bike had a fork lock, hopped on it and took off, I didnt go in a left circle like would be expected, instead it threw me off the right side of the bike. Before I learned to leave my carrying case for myrotor lock on my seat, I took off with my rotor locked, didnt go very far, no damage was the good thing. Ride safe, and enjoy.

Probably not as embarrassing as it was just plain stupid. I was at a partners place and we were all drinking Wild turkey and beer. Not moderatly either. It was getting late (must have been 1am or later) and I decided I needed to get on home. His place was maybe 6 blocks from mine on side streets so anyone not passed out just figured I was a walkin. Didn't remember kicking the bike over or leaving. I stopped at a stop sign and pretty much came to with bike laying on my left leg pinning me to the ground. So I just layed there looking at the stars, too wasted to get it off of me. Finally, some people drove up to the corner and saw me chilling there on the ground. Must have been half hour or better. Helped me get the bike up and parked against the curb (I do believe they were doing alot of laughing). I staggered off towards home and woke up on the living room floor about 10 two feet inside the entry with the keys hanging in the open door. The apartment was visible from most of the complex. I am not sure how embarrassed I was cause we did that kind of **** all the time but looking back 35 years later it is not something to be proud of. Oh, don't drink anymore!
I bought my old lady a yamaha road star recently, though I did not drop it, but it did make me say WTF, I was trting to start it and the starter would not spin, needless to say the old lady had to come outside and tell me hey you can't start my bike in gear with the kickstand down, got to looking and sure enough it has a swich on the kickstand to prevent it from starting or running, to prevent such an event. but I really looked like an a$$ having to have "her" tell me this.
Wow... I have to admit when I 1st started reading this thread I was laughing and thinking "what a bunch a tools!"
But after reading the whole thread so far I realize it happens, and just because it hasen't happed to me yet doesn't meanI am immuned from it.
You guys aremore man than I for putting yourselves out there like this
I did see someone drop a Goldwing (or what ever they were called then) about 20 years ago, pulling a trailer trying to do a u-turn in the rain up in Helen Georgiaduring thebike week thing up there. I didn't laugh at him... I just felt really bad, but I did laugh when my dad (the Quintessential big, tuff Harley guy) kept driven and said "dumb azz winger!
I'm afraid you'll have to sell your scooter now. You're just not cool enough. Sorry but it's the law. Used to be, you's have to go to prison for awhile.
If someone says he never has -BS a certain probablility. I got friends that have been riding HD for 35 years. They still screw up.
I've been riding sice I was 14. I'm 58. You would think I would have learned by now.
One good thing is to think about what you are doing from the moment you throw the leg over her.

Engraved Rebellion: Inside Bundnerbike's Glam Rock II
Stopped to get some gas a couple weeks back. Debated for a second whether to gas up with the bike upright, like normal, or on the kickstand as was recommended to ensure I put as much gas in the tank as possible. After a minute'ss debate, decided to fill up with the kickstand done. Something told me to let the bike down slowly. I'm glad I did because when the bike continued to tilt, only then did I realize that during my internal debate I forgot the import step of extending the kickstand.
