There are probably a hundred or more threads about this subject. Long story short; many (me included) like the Wild 1 Chubby 518 or 508's, many like the bars that come on the Heritage Softail while others like some of the apes. If you're wanting to move them closer take a good look at the Wild 1's. How tall are you? The tech's at Wild 1 suggested the 518's if you are over 6' tall; the 508's if you are less.

You can look at my sig or my photo gallery to get a better look at the 518's.

Good luck with your search...one things for certain, the stock bars do suck.

Things change, but it used to be that the bars on the RK were identical to those on a Fatboy. Of course the frames and seats are different so they feel different.

The Heritage bars are a lot taller (have more rise.) You can tilt them back a hair if you want, too. It's a good way to save money - buy take-offs, cables and all.

Or, bite the bullet and buy whatever you want.

Edit, here are shots of the RK, FB and Htg, in that order.

Just for me, I like the upright position of the Heritage bars. It's easier on my back, but that's just me of course.

I have Heritage bars on mine. Brings the bars nice and close and they are closer together as well. Cheap fix. You probably won't find the take offs at the dealership though, when I asked if they had any to sell at a discount they said "no, we put them all on the Road Kings." Seems like they should tell the MOCO to offer that as an option.

My bars are the Wild 1 518's...take a look at their web site for a lot more information on both sizes. They have an interactive site that shows the differences between their bars and stockers.

You know I thought the Fatboy and the R.K. had the same handlebars. When I tested the R.K. Classic, the dealer recommended the "beachybars" [:-]that came standard on the R.K. Custom. They come way back. Worth a look anyway.

I have Wild 1's 551, or their beach bars, which have as much pull back as the 518 but with about half the rise.
