I have the Sundowner seat, backrest, luggage rack and windshield for my Deuce. I can ride it all day long, no problems. I plan to ride it round-trip to Sturgis - 3,000 miles. I have new-in-the-box Deuce saddlebags that I got with the bike but they've never been installed. I'm going to get quick release mounts before I go so I can use them.

I have a 2005 Heritage I could take but I actually like riding the Deuce better.

One extra pair of socks and underwear, one extra t-shirt,pair of shorts(SUMMER)For swimming all rolled up in a blanket......Straped on the back and a small tool set in a fork bag....Rain gear optional.....

This is all I took to Sturges for 15 differant trips but when I got a bagger in 83 I put the same things in the side bag rather then strapping it on the back....

You can wear the extra shorts, uderwear, socks and shirt when washing your dirty stuff.

I'm only 5'8 so I don't imagine they would come in very useful for me. The only problem I have when I've been on the bike for a few hours is a pain that develops between my shoulderblades from my riding position I assume. Hope to use one of the bags as a backrest for the trip. Round trip is 1300 miles plus whatever I put on the clock while down there.

You are stopping every 180-200 miles for fuel.....walk it off and then grin and go. What the hell are you going to do with a screwdriver or an allen wrench? Harleys are good bikes and if well maintained will not often quit on you. You are riding an 06 that looks to be in good shape...geez, just ride it. Focus on your riding gear to stay comfortable and dry.

Are you going to be traveling interstate all or most of the time? Are you all traveling together? If so, you'll need to work out some type of communications, hand signals, etc. You will be stopping for gas twice as often as they do. Have a place to meet down the road in case you get separated so you won't have to stop at Flea Markets. Main thing to take is a good and understanding attitude for the daydreaming drivers on the road. Second main thing to take, camera. Expecting to see a full pictorial in July.

Some raingear, spare gloves, layers to add under your riding gear, first aid kit, water, and snacks. You can take a small tool kit if it makes you feel better. But a cell phone and some kind of roadside assistance coverage would be good.

You can do it in a day so there is no point in haulin' a bunch of crap with you.
