The six of us are actually renting a 26' fifth wheel camper that is parked in the owner's driveway. He sounds like a great person to rent from by the couple of phone conversations we've had. It's going to be $1000 for 5 nights. I was really hung up on trying to find a place within walking distance. I'm big on people watching while enjoying a couple of beers. Last year, which was my first, we tried that and we're staying in Wall, SD, an 80 mile ride. It worked out, but wasn't what I wanted to do. This looks as if it should work out great.
Geez
If your passing through Minnesota, you can sleep in my drivway for half that for one night [only $100] if your tired of driving.
What a deal........[sm=deal.gif]
Amen to the Chip.
Some of the best concerts I've ever seen were there.
We always stay at Glenco because at least from 2:00 AM to about 5:00AM it's "relatively" quiet.
Need a few hours of sleep.
No offense to those that stay in houses, hotels, etc, but the Surgis "experience" is completely different in the campgrounds and must be seen to be believed.
There is a camaraderie in the campgrounds that you don't get staying in a hotel. We meet up with the same people and make new friends from all over the world each year.
Mike
I must be getting old and deaf or maybe I was just bone tired, but I haven't had any problems sleeping at the Chip. Or with tenting it.
Compared to Alaska state parks the Chip is "deluxe" accomodations, complete with nekid women. [:-]
You Guys that stay in Surgis proper or in one of the big camp grounds are either Young or gluttens for punishment. I like to camp out at Hill city about 73 miles from Sturgis. There I'm between Custer National Park and Surgis with all the little towns and beautiful riding roads close buy. Needles highway for examp;le. If you go to Sturgis just for the Party at Sturgis in my opinion you are missing the best part of the Black Hills. I Visit Sturgis for one day so I can see the latest changes and believe there have been a lot since 76. But I love the winding roads, The cool temperature in the hills. the small towns with the local bars and color. Riding the Black Hills is a Spiritual thing. After a week there you become a differnt person. The only bad thing about going to Sturgis and the Black Hill is the day you pack up and leave.

I had a blast at Elkview Campground last year. Just past Sturgis. We only went in to Main St area a couple of times. Spent most of the time riding around. Some how we ended up at the Full Throttle to end each day. That place changed my life. Will be riding out again this year from Portland.

Have to concur the Chip is a blast. Loud all night but ear plugs work well. Listening to the drunk idiots doing burnouts while bouncing their bike off the rev limiter is always fun.... Concerts are great and night life is fun. One year they had a monster truck and gave people rides around the campground!!! I have stayed there many times and already paid for next year. 1/2 price if you pay before the new year. Will be there 8/2-8/9. Don't miss naked Tueday in Huelet, WY. Great riding everywhere.
