If I'm with a few friends I try to take up the tail .I dont like people in back of me who I dont trust. When riding in a charity run its hard to find a comfortable spot. Just leave a little more room than usual from the bike infront of you especially if you dont know the persons riding habits. I cant stand it when people I dont know all of a sudden come right up next to me. If something were to happen there is no place to go. You would think these people would figurw it out but they dont.
Allways bethe tail dragger.....You'll be safe in the rear [Also know your on limits as far as stoping your bike... May need some extra room until you sure] Also i'm not big on riding side by side unless I know you canhold a good line.
Seems like everyone wants to be on the tail end. My thought is that only one can be the last one. Does everyone try to manuever to be the last rider in a line? Just curious.
I am the last man of the pack! Mainly becuase my since of direction SUCKS and i am the mechanic of the group... plus my girl rides with us. and i like to keep an eye on her and the idiots around her... I have also been known to put my foot into a door or two when they try to get into our group... earned me the name Shepard for a bit. Just watching over my flock... i am a big fan of riding in the back
Count me as another vote for the rear, but I also like leading the ride. I can control the speed, keep the group together, etc. Personally, I hate riding side-by-side in the same lane any more. I used to do it all the time when I was younger, but even then only with guys I knew and trusted. Now, it just doesn't make sense to give up the safety margin. About the only time I will do it any more is in places like Daytona.
well you might say you want to be in the rear
but how come every one is always trying to move up in the pack ?
or jockeying around for a better spot ?
that is not how I was taught
once the pack is moving you try and stay in the posistion that was apointed to you by either your president or the road captain or the spot you started in (NO JOCKEYING AROUND) that is something theese people of today seem to forget
sure being the sweeper in the rear can be a great posistion if you know the duties that come with it
I'm a new rider. The one group ride I've been on I was the second one form the back. The tail gunner was a guy I've known for about 20 + years now. I felt real comfortable knowing he was behind me. All I had to do was follow the guy in front of me. Didn't even need to check my mirrors.
