There is no argument regarding a tach and sure it is a good instrument. however it is so basic that every rider should be able to tell how his engine is turning. the "sound" is the best tachometer. So at the end of the day whether you train your senses with a tachometer or the speedometer, it hardly makes any difference. Fly with the seat of your pants and keep your ears tuned.

Idepends whatsdone to the motor. My shifting patterns have changed with the changes I have made to the performance of the bike be it pipes ac etc. I do agree that anything under 70 in 6th gear is lugging the motor. I shift into 6th at about 75 and it goes from there.
