I just bought a new Softail Custom. I wear a full-face helmut and drive on the highway so it is difficult to hear the engine. Since there is no RPM instrument, I'm wondering if somebody could give me ballpark figures on the speed I should be going for each gear.
I'd have to say Duece put you "in the know".
I don't even have a speedo thingy, ride by 'ear' for years.
Other thing, that round thingy on the end of your right handlebar: if it is NOT turned all the way to the STOP, then you aren't going fast enough.
You should be able to hear your engine with a full face helmet. If you can't, then you need a louder exhaust system....................[sm=icon_sneaky.gif]
Not sure about your Deuce, but always seems like it's luggin in 6th at 60mph and definitely luggin at 15mph in 2nd.
Not recommended by the books, but bike seems happy with the following
1st 0-20mph
2nd 20-30
3rd 30-40 (50-55 if accelerating hard)
4th 40-55 (65 if accelerating hard)
5th 55-70
6th +70
