Zombie is right. If I go by the manual, mine feels like it's lugging. I go by sound but it seems to work out to about 10 mph more than they recommend. Bike sounds and feels better that way. Works for me.
Wow..I thought you guys would have ripped hima new one for asking that question. Is this his first bike? Is he a RUB/Squid? Hey turczytj....do your sneakers match the color of your bike? Hopefully this is not an accident waiting to happen.

Nah, no reason for that. He's new, he asked a question, no reason I could see not to answer it. Questions don't bother me, it's the preaching I can't stand.[8D]

Yeah,I was waitin' for the *** tearin' to start too...glad to see he just got some simple answers to a simple newbie question...
won't be long, he'll be ridin' by the seat ofhispants like most others...
AT first, when the engine is tight, it will lug at lower rpms. As everything loosens up, then you can shift earlier. You'll also hear your pipes better as they break in, alothough most people can't wait and change them out.
Do the BT's really need to be shifted that much earlier? I know I was lugging my bike when I first bought it but now my shifting pattern is more as follows.
1st 0-25
2nd 25-35
3rd 35-45
4th 45-60+
5th 60+
This is a normal shift pattern; if I'm getting on it at all it goes up from there for each gear. I find myself entering the highway in 3rd going 65+ at times.
