Not sure how many know this, but if you ride a bagger, ANY HD barrel key will open your gas cap! Now, picture this...you are out on a putt a hundred miles from home and drop your keys or lose them somehow...stop any bagger! If you have a key stashed inside your gas cap door....voila!
Yeah...I guess another rider COULD run around unlocking gas filler doors looking for one with an ignition key inside, but what are the chances...as oppsoed to a decent method of having an ignition key on hand at all times?
I also cable tied a spare inside the faring...take the windscreen off, four screws and there it is. (And my trusted friend(s) also have a key)
Just a thought....I lost the key to my Softail once...spending bucks on a locksmith on a Sunday taught me a lesson!
As far as loosing the keys, I have a good buddy that we almost always go on bigger runs together, we both have spare's to the others bike locked in our saddle bags. So as long as both of us dont loose are keys at the same run we are good to go.
I was also unaware that Ace carried barrell type keys, there is an Ace right here in town to. I guess I should go check it out and see about getting a couple of extra keys made for the bike's. Thanks for the head's up on that one.
I ordered a set of locks for my leather bags from Harley. I got them keyed alike so now I have 4 sets of keys for my bike. Thinking of using a plastic tie to secure one to the zipper on my jackets inside pocket.
It's not that I loose them, I just can't remember wear I put them. Maybe I should duct tape one to my leg or some other part of my body. it's hell getting old.
Get a "Prince Albert" and attach your key to it! You'll always know where the key is!
