I have a 07 FXDWG I bought in Aug last year brand new from the dealer. It has about 1500 miles on it and the clutch cable broke last weekend. The dealer took it and said no problem they would have it for me by Thursday of this week.
I called today and they said the cable is backordered and wouldn't have it until May 23rd!
They said they we're trying to find the part from other dealers but were not having any luck. They said I could get a third party cable but that would not be covered under the warranty
Does this sound right?
I mean a fairly new bike and HD doesn't have parts for it. I mean it is what is is but I'm in the northeast we can only ride from April-Oct so I'm losing almost a month. Not to mention I'm not impressed with a broken clutch cable on a fairly new bike. Don't get me wrong it's an awesome ride (when it's working ;-)
I guess I just have to "ride" this one out. Any advice is appreciated.
Have you tried contacting an independent shop in the area? They might be able to get you a Non-HD compatible cable. (Barnett Cables for instance)....just make sure you get the right one. '07 is different from '06 and '08 (at least it was on the bagger.
No good news, the backorder release date is 5/21/08. Part number has changed to 38788-06B. The "A" is obsolete. If they cared about you, they can do a Easy-LInk and get it from another dealer to get you fixed.
