Today I worked and rode in the Lex and Terry Ticket to Ride for Autism in Jacksonville, FL. The line of bikes was eight miles long and two abreast. It took 25 minutes to get everyone out of the parking lot and then back into the parking lot when the ride was done. This time we rode down A1A along the ocean. It was great watching the people in their multi-million dollar beach front homes coming out on their patios and raving to us as we went by. There was even a guy who stood on the stern of his 60' yacht who couldn't resist watching the procession of bikes as we rolled over the Vilano Bridge in St. Augustine. But my favorite part is always the kids, grinning from ear to ear, waving as hard as they can at the bikes rolling by. Rides like this can be a bit annoying as they are slow and tedious, but they are also so rewarding.
Of course, I don't know if the people we ticked off along the way felt the same way (police escorted) LOL
I don't think anyone would be too mad once they found out it was for kids. God bless 'em anyway I miss ol lex and terry since I moved out of Jax. sounds like they are doing good stuff.
They always come back for the ride. They were there today with the entire crew. Can't wait to listen to them Monday morning to see what they hae to say about the ride. The weather was absolutely perfect (if not a little warm) and the turn out was huge. Approximately 800 - 850 bikes!
