I am not a big fan of heavy metal flake but thats why there is chocolate and vanilla. I however see alot lot of bikes with custom paint and appreciate the time and effort that went intocreating a bike thats unique and while I am thinking that looks awesome I am also thinking I wouldn't want that on my bike.
Bottom line is like your painter said go see it in person and if you like it thats all that matters. Its your bike andits a personal thing when it comes to the custom paint, kind of like a tattoo.
The blue color is the stock Cobalt Blue of my 06' Street Glide. The metal flake isn't as extreme as the pics make it look. I think that's from the flash of the camera.

I don't think you could go wrong with silver, black, or possibly even white. Maybe a white flame with silver stripes? Silver with black stripes? The options are endless, and that is precisely the reason I don't have custom paint. I think of a new idea every single day, and they all look cool in my head. Kinda makes it hard to decide. I feel like paint canchange the entire direction of a bike's styling.
Here's what we came up with...a 3 stage paint that's very close to my stock color but changes to almost black in low light conditions. Now I need to pick a color the pinnstripper will use to outline the flames.
Check out the last pic I posted. You might like it.

Been thinking about the same thing on my cobalt blue scooter. If I wind up pulling the trigger on the deal, the flames are going to be black (with metal flake)
What you have chosen is outstanding. But most anything would have gone with cobalt blue. Traditional orange/yellow or silver or green. Like someone else posted....what you like.
I love flames. Both my 83 and 63 fl's were matching black with orange/yellow flames with blue pin striping.
