How many of us in our "formative" years did this? It's real cool to make fun of a neewbie forgeting that we once were one. After 40 years I try to educate not put down anyone. If you don't want my advise fine, if ya want to listen that's cool. Is it the best advise, no, there is always someone who knows more. In any endevour it is a responsibily of the more experienced to help the less experienced.
How is the view up there on that high horse?
No where in this thread did I put him down or make fun of him. I felt for him. I too have done exactly the same thing, how do you think I knew to check the petcock?
That happened to me during the MSF course test!!! bike died just as I finished the figure 8 in the box..... nope didn't turn the petcock on....I felt like an idiot...didn't get any points deducted as I completed the turn before it died.... glad I bought a bike with EFI!!!

EXACT same thing happened to my buddy at the Rider's Edge course on Sunday. We had both been ace-ing every driving test all day. Then, at the end of the day [Rider Evaluation Time] I said "Watch-we'll start screwing up **** we've been doing perfect all day."
Halfway thru his first figure eight, the bike died...too funny!
I started on carbed bikes with petcocks. My first was a 67 Honda.Although I have driven off with it closed, I always snapped to it and I opened it. I can't say I ever stood on the side of the road and bitched. Of course, if the saleman had done a proper delivery, that would have been checked and pointed out.
I've done it, but luckily, the bike died while it was warming up in my driveway. But yeah, easy mistake to make! That poor guy will hear about that from his SO for a long, long time.
