RE: Brass or copper shavings in oil
It's actually bronze, and can come from the pinion bushing, wrist pin bushings and valve guides or any place else that uses bronze bushings. It's a strange material that will flake on occaision from use. If you have good oil pressure and no unusual knocks, I would not be too concerned. A sudden increase in it's amount would warrant an ivestigation.

For what it's worth my 07fxstc has had bronze in the filter from day one. It is slowly dimmishing at 5500 kilometers, but still the odd one. First suspected the pinion bushing and installed a pressure gauge to monitor oil pressure. If this bushing gets beat out from crank runout pressures the oil pressure will go with it. So far no problems.

I feel better knowing someone else has experienced this same thing. I'll keep an eye on the oil pressure and the other eye on the road, Take care Ron . Cheers Rick
