Default Brass or copper shavings in oil

I bought a 2006 electric glide and changed the oil today and found pieces of brass or copper in theoil filter and oil pan. The bike has 30 thou km. Seem to run okay but shake pretty good at idle But all Harleys shake alittle.Can someone let me know what might be the problem if any Thanks Rick

It's actually bronze, and can come from the pinion bushing, wrist pin bushings and valve guides or any place else that uses bronze bushings. It's a strange material that will flake on occaision from use. If you have good oil pressure and no unusual knocks, I would not be too concerned. A sudden increase in it's amount would warrant an ivestigation.

Thanks for getting back to me. I saved some of the shavings but also found a couple of pieces about this size ( 0 ) never seen this before.My oil pressure looks good. Cross my fingers and hope it nothing Thanks Rick

For what it's worth my 07fxstc has had bronze in the filter from day one. It is slowly dimmishing at 5500 kilometers, but still the odd one. First suspected the pinion bushing and installed a pressure gauge to monitor oil pressure. If this bushing gets beat out from crank runout pressures the oil pressure will go with it. So far no problems.

I feel better knowing someone else has experienced this same thing. I'll keep an eye on the oil pressure and the other eye on the road, Take care Ron . Cheers Rick
