If you decide to come south, there are some beautiful places in the Keys but it'll be hot as a ***** getting down here. Summer is the off season in south Fla so there are some pretty good deals going on for hotels. You could save your vacay and head down for the Key West Poker Run in September. It would be a little cooler and you'd get to see way more bike type stuff. Just a thought...
I'm close to you. I live in Leesburg. If you go to Crystal River via 44, stop by a place I just discovered a couple of weeks ago. In Inverness, take 41 south towards Floral City. About 6 miles south, turn left at the Circle K. Go about 3 miles to the Sleepy Hollow. A great biker hangout on a river with great food and entertainment on the weekend.
As others have said, you can spend your entire vacation around Crystal River with great hangouts and reasonable motel rates.
Sleepy Hollow is a must see on a Friday or Saturday evening.
Head up 19 along the west coast, all the way to Perry is a nice ride, 4 lane and not much traffic, take 47 back south. Stop in Cedar Key or Steinhatchee
Always wanted to go up A1A to Mayport and take the farry across the StJohns river and 301 back south.
I'm off that week too, plant shutdown, no plans yet, ready for a ride.
