Years ago (like 25+) I was with a friend and some "stuff" happend that involved "1 finger salutes" at the next intersection the guy is behind us. The guy gets out of his car acting all po'd walks up to my my buddy (drivers side) and starts with the m.f. this you @#$%$% and stuff. the asshat was dressed like some kind of salesman or something too, not the kind you would really expect this stuff from back then.
The light turns green, my friend reaches out the window and grabs the dudes neck tie, yanks it in the car and - ROLLS UP THE WINDOW !!- starts to drive off slowly (the asshat is peeing his pants at this point) at about 10mph or so he unrolls the window and we drive off. Never saw the guy again.
+1 to Oldfenderguy and others. I'm not a bit shy about standing up for myself, but you don't know who's behind the wheel of the cage or what their reaction would be to a perceived threat to them. When I'm on my bike I sometimes have to supress the rage, but I figure it's for my own good cause there's no way to win a vehicle showdown.
When I'm on the bike, I'm always very aware of how vurnerable I am. You just can't win a battle with a car, let alone some crazed idiot that could start shooting at you.
But I have lost it when folks turn left right in front of me. Something about a panic stop that gets your heart racing.
Other than when he almost clipped me.....I never felt in any immediate danger. I also was pissed that he passed me on a double line in a curve he couldn't see around....if the **** would have hit the fan it would have left me few options. Farmers are in the field right now and I could just imagine a big john deer around the corner with a big chisel plow hooked on taking up 3/4 of the road. I was going 60-65 on a two lane highway in a very rural area with a 55mph speed limit. He blew by me so fast that I could see his passenger telling him I gave them the bird....then the driver saluted out his window. When the driver's arm went out the window he was allready about 75 yards ahead of me. I started rolling off the throttle as soon as they went around me to give me a cushion. I also was slightly amused by his throwing rocks and dust up because of the crosswind none of it was even bothering me. He stopped twice....and I stayed behind him at least 100 yards the whole time. There was no way I was going to let him get behind me again. When I stopped to let him go on I was just on the other side of the hill where I could still see them and they probably couldn't see me and I saw that they took off at 100+ mph. I stopped and waited 5 or so min. I had a cell phone and I do have my ccwp...so I really wasn't too worried. There was also quite a bit of evening traffic and I was passing a friend's house as this all happened. Like I said....I'm 99% sure it was 3 HS kids on the way to a baseball game. I think he and his buds thought they were being cute. I'm not sure I would have handled it much differently....I'm not worried about it, and I'm not gonna change my route or anything. It was only like a min. out of my life. Couple things have me in deep thought though. It really ticks me off that people drive like ****** (this guy going way out of his way to be a jerk)...where are then in such a hurry to go? Secondly that this punk now thinks he has learned a funny trick that he could try later on down the road on other cyclists. I'm not so sure I'll be so quick to flip the bird next time....because it probably isn't worth it. I could see how it could get pretty interesting pretty fast!! I'm in a very rural area....I'm sure sometime or an other we will run into each other again. Now that conflict could get interesting!!
It is not worth any hassles with Idiots like that.Just grin and bear it.Think about it the world is full of BluntSkulls, and they have their rights according to the law.
