Always shift into neutral before shutting down the engine, UNLESS I'm parking on a incline. Then, I use the kill switch to remind me I have to find neutral before starting. I generally start with the clutch disengaged to unload the drag from the gears.

Not long ago, I didn't follow my routine. I was talking with a guy who was looking at my bike. I had parked in gear, but for some reason I didn't use the kill switch. I got ready to leave, turned the ignition switch on, and hit the starter. Jumped right over the parking block!! Talk about embarrassed!

Parked in gear yesterday. Parked in gear today. Parked in gear tommorow. But always after seeing that the jiffy stand is set in place.

Start bike in neutral. Park the bike with it in neutral unless you are worried about it rolling. To start the bike with it in gear even with the clutch lever pulled in still adds load to the starter. Most of all do what you want ---its your bike and this has been discussed on here before.

The bikes will start without the clutch lever being pulled. The dealer was showing me a Street Glide and started it by putting in neutral and hitting the start button...VROOOOM!!!!!

I don't think you could do any harm. The guys make a good point of getting into a routine. The 08's require the clutch held in to start. My routine is when I park in the garage I'm always in neutral, but when parking anywhere else, I always leave it in first gear, I figure it might make it more difficult to steal. That is probably wishful thinking. But you can't harm the bike. Sometimes in is easier to get it into neutral when motor is off.

You're partially right. The 08's won't turn over in gear unless the clutch is pulled, but they'll start just fine in Neutral with no clutch action.

Hell there aint nothin level in East Tennessee so mine always gets turned off in gear, then go to neautral with clutch in thumb on button and then start button. Same routine for 10years. start yur motors in gear and you can often feel the bike move slightly cause the clutch isn't quite diengaged and there is some slight drag, that aint good on expensive starter motors.
