The quick release are not a DOT law issue. Some (like me) find that I can't them as comfortable as the DD ring straps, but I do know some folks have no comfort issues with the quick release.

DD for me!

I dont like the idea of quick release anything in my protective gear

Also, I didn't have an option other than buying a conversion kit. It was only akward for the first 10 or so times, now its second nature. Well, except that time I forgot to secure it at all and got nailed in the neck hard by the strap about 100 yards later.

I prefer the Quick Release...but it's not like DD's are horrible either. If I have the choice - I get the QR on my helmets.

What about your seat belt? [8D]Or you never go by car? Sorry couldn't resist...
Anyway,
I have never heard of a QR that failed. In Sweden we're very particular about security and was probably the first country with mandatory helmet laws. We do have statistics for every accident and there seems to be more injuries with people using DD's that are not properly adjusted or not engaged at all because of the 'only a short trip and it's so much fumbling to secure it...' syndrome!
I don't think I ever saw a guy with QR ride with an unsecured helmet but quite often riders with the long strap flapping around[&:]
I too is a DD man in other areas but not in helmets

I have several helmets and both systems. I can do the DD rings faster than the quick release. You see, most people who try the rings don't realize that you don't need to undo the straps from the D rings. Instead you just loosen and slip helmet off, or slip on and tighten,,, very easy and fast.
