Default Double D or quick release helmet straps?

I noticed that almost every helmet sold in USA is DD-strap. [:@]
Over here in Europe is it quick release that rules.
Is it because of DOT or why should you be forced to fumble with that awkward DD's?[8D]

It isn't due to DOT, my DOT lid has the quick-release (It's an NXT carbon-fiber unit).

Cheers!

Clammy is right - DOT has no bearing in quick release either way...only the protection thresholds of the helmet.

I prefer a quick release by far - get it adjusted how you like it, and all you need to do is click on and click off.

Well I guess we're not the only two thinking in that direction....... As far as the helmet straps go, I like the D-ring set up, it's not hard or time consuming to use and I could be wrong, but it just seems more secure than a clip that could come undone at the one time you don't want the chin strap to unhook.

Ditto. That's what got my attention!
DD is what my half shell came with.

I think it mostly comes down to preferences.

As far as the quick release coming loose compared to the DD - I guess the way I see it is that if I'm wearing a half-helmet and there's enough force going on to undo the quick release...well, you get the point.

The quick release on my carbon fiber helmet and NexL are both VERY well made and you can't undo either of them by "mistake". You have to squeeze both ends of the release pretty damn well to get it to come undone. They are both very strong as well. I don't have any concerns about anything coming undone unless there is a TON of force being used - and like I said - if there is that much force going on, you have a lot more trouble on your hands than a half-helmet is going to be able to handle.

I returned the good carbon fiber helmet and swapped it for one with d-rings. [:'(]
For me to get it snug enough, the big release plastic was either digging in my neck or jaw. D- rings takes a little longer but easier to fine tune the fit.
The advance carbon folks include the quick release at no charge and lots of folks love 'em, I didnt.

Not 100% sure, but I'ld swear my buddy bought an adapter at the HD shop to make a DD into Quick Release, not too spendy either.
Couldv'e been at one of the snow-machine shops also.
