Almost
Wife and I headin' up to Harrold's yesterday on Pima Rd. (northbound) for the buffet.
Coming up to a light that turns yellow when I'm about 50 yards from the intersection - there's a cage waiting to turn left from southbound heading east. I'm thinking go through the yellow, until the cage starts his left turn in front of us.
Panic stop time - I hit both brakes hard, the rear slides out to the right, and I'm in full skid mode. Slowed us down enough to miss the cage, and about half way through the intersection I get it straightened up. Could of sworn we were going down. My reaction was purely instinctive, turning into the slide, shifting my weight, and the only thing I can attribute my reaction to is riding in the dirt when I was a kid. Thank God for all the sliding around on that Suzuki TS250 way back when - saved our asses yesterday. I'm a believer that before you get out on the highway with all the idiots, you ought to slide around in the dirt a little bit.
Needless to say, had a quiet breakfast, the near miss scared the **** out of both of us.
When I was considering riding every story about bikes caught me ear. One biker who grew up on a farm said he could tell who rode horses or dirt bikes and who just learned to ride on the street.
He said most bikers go for a ride on the bike, but those who rode horses or dirt bikes knew you took the bike for a ride.
I believe your time on the dirt paid off.
Glad you're ok. That's why I never go thru a yellow if I can stop and there's someone waiting to turn. I'm not taking the chance they're going to wait for me to go thru.
Gooseneck - got a chuckle out of that - other way around, though- bowels were recently emptied
