What a beautiful day yesterday and late evening for a ride. I pretty much have everything done and dialed in so I wanted to take her out and enjoy it for an hour or two. I'm just crusin along, feeling good, bike is humming and running like a champ, all that time and money well worth it.
So I'm on a 2 lane road right through the center of downtown. I have no one in front of me, a car behind me and cars parked on both sides of the street. Nothing can go wrong, right? I'm happy as can be, right? Bike lookin sweet and running even better!
THEN, out of nowhere this oncoming car decides to do a U turn RIGHT in front of me, right on main street right down town. Like I said, I had no where to go, I had 1 single option, lock it up and brace for impact. My very 1st thought that came to mind? OH MY GOD, I just spent 3 years, a hell of allot of time and a ton of money to be the proud owner of a pile of junk!!! My *** end came completely around on me and by time I stopped you could not fit a sheet or paper between my bike and his car.
The reason for this story? Just a reminder to stay alert 100% of the time, its the only thing that saved me yesterday. To me, this is the best riding weather/season and it's easy to get caught up in your ride, enjoy the scenery and wildlife is on the move now more than ever. Ride safe and use my story to remind yourselves that we are still a moving target!!!
Had the same thing happen to me. Women flip a u turn right in front of me. Said she never saw me. I told her "you didn't hear me ?". Total silence ! I didn't go down either, but I scrapped her front fender pretty good.
