Default How often do bugs attack?

Only been riding for a few weeks so far but I really cant stand the windshield. I took it off and Im currently just cruising around hte neigborhood and in town a little tryin to get some experience before I hit the highways and what not. I run with a 1/2 rally rider helm or no helm. Just depends. When I hit the faster speeds and traffic do I need it? Dont mind eatin a few bugs but dont want to get knocked out by a flying rock. Any suggestions or experiences? Im thinkin its a must but I really dont want to put it back on

Up here, the bugs are thicker on overcast days, hot sun keeps 'em hiding! As for rocks, guess that would depend on your area.
Road construction season, interestingly enough, seems to coincide with riding season[8D], Go figure?!
Since I've had large rocks hit my car windsheild ALOT[:-], I always use my windsheild, and my helmet. That's just MHO.

Helmet, always. Windshield? Up to you. I've found that in daytime riding, you'll get a few bugs. Nighttime, every bug in the county is aiming for your headlight. Check it out. Do you want all those bugs on your $300 jacket?

I agree with the rest, wear your helmet,as far as the windshield, short rides around town or within 50-60 miles go with out the windshield, but on long hauls and interstate hwys you need the windshield,on long rides it is less tiresome and you dont have to fight the bike when you meet big rigs or campers, you ride longer that way IMO[sm=biker2.gif]

The windshield helps when on the highway alot. I was no fan of the way that windshields look, but you can't beat their function. You say you don't mind bugs. I hope that is true because with no windshield they will be on your face, clothes, etc. I'm not saying it's always that bad, but just want you to get the full picture. I hit a bug at 95mph, but I had on a full faced helmet. I had to pull over and get the goo off of my helmet, hands, jacket, etc. I had no windshield. I prefer no windshield when cruising around town, but if I'm on the road for a long trip I put it on.

Thx for all the advice. Basically I only dont wear the helm when Im goin around 25 in my neigborhood test driving. Anything post 25 I wear it. I will take your advice and wear it full time now cause I value your opinions and experience. My plan is 1/2 helm driving around in slower situations and maybe a 3/4 or full for highways. THX for the advice!
