Terry you better get off your **** and make that phone call,, tell Amanda to fire some *****!!!!! That's the best one I've read so far Lanny!!! \\;
Regardless, somewhere there is a sysadmin who should be looking for a new line of work.
My point exactly except I don't blame the sys admin. The hackers had to get past an Apache firewall (dmz) to get to the Microsoft IIS. They also busted a whole bunch of Apache database servers - mostly Apache.
Oh oh ,can I list cerifications too....MCSE, MCDBA, MCAD, MCSD, MCSA
After 15 years of working with high availability applications hosted in data centers around the world......
From this angle.....I can tell you, unequivocally, that its......BROKE
 \\;
BTW...ALL operating systems and thier service applications are hackable. \\;That includes UNIX (and it's off shoots).
To be honest, I'm surprised hdforums is even up at all at this point. I'm betting that there is some serious flattening/rebuilding efforts going on right now. (At least I would hope so.)
 \\;
As luck would have it, I've been doing some self-study on computer forensics for my job over the past few weeks. Based on what I've been able to pick up, I don't envy what the site admins and hosting company are having to deal with right now.

It's amazing how quiet google is on this. Not much there. They aren't saying much. I'd be curious to know if this hack was social engineering or even an inside job. It doesn't \\;make sense that someone would get into so many \\;servers \\;without some help, especially so many different \\;types of systems.
BTW, if you want to practice hacking, I need my hard \\;disk formatted. My IP is 127.0.0.1.  \\;
It's easy to fix a problem by bypassing it, i.e. ignoring it, chucking everything, and starting over. With the collected experience and wisdom here, I think we're all glad that isn't happening here. Although, think of it: starting over with brand new threads on azzless chaps, fingerless gloves, windshields, dino/synth oil, girls' bikes, and the wave.....
The problem may not actually lie with the server itself, but the code that was used to develop the site. \\; Keep in mind the .NET server has a back-end database server such as SQL (MS WINDWOS) or Oracle (UNIX) that it interfaces with and can be an issue.
While this site more than likely resides in the DMZ of the firewall since it is hosted on the Internet, it doesn't look lilke a hack job.
For a site that probably doesn't generate much in the way of revenue, I impressed that it has been as reliable as it has been. \\; The last issue that I recall was the search problem that was eventually fixed after about a month, I'm assuming this one will take the same amount of time to get addressed by someone doing it in their spare time.
Jsans, The site belongs to InternetBrands who owns a lot of these sites including carsdirect.com. Their net income last quarter was 3 million, up 30% from last year. The host is mzima.net, the largest hosting service in the world.
