I didn't think cows could run that fast? Could it have been on inexperienced rider on a new bike that didn't take the MSF or Harley course?
Lucky to walk away from that encounter.
Cows are actually pretty fast when they want to be. I always thought they were slow too until I rented a bike in Hawaii last month. I was on a RK Custom with my wife on the back it was dark on this dirt road in the middle of nowhere (I was taking a shortcut ) when I noticed cows on both sides of the road.(Note I paid no attention to the cattle crossing signs all over the place)When I started to go in between them I guess I scared one of them and it started to run along side of us. I sped up and so did he and then started towards me so I slowed down and so did he then I hit the throttle hard and passed him You'd be suprised how fast those things are.
When we stopped I told my wife she should have got the camera out and got a pic of that. She just gave me a really dirty look since she was scared to death and didn't want to take that road in the first place. I still say it was quicker and was only about 18 miles of dirt and/or potholes the whole way before it became paved again
Thank goodness the rider is ok. Animals are my biggest concern as it is impossible to know what they might do or to react soon enough when they come out of nowhere. You have to really scan the sides of the road and I almost never ride after dark. I bet the at least 90% of wild animal/motorcycle collisions are after dusk. Cagers are bad enough but to me animal are worse. Anyone know what percent of motorcycle/animal collisions is actually afet dark compared to daytime?
