Today at work we got a call for motorcycle verses a cow. We headed down canyon and found an 06 Dyna along the road with the rider sitting on the ground. A quick check for injuries proved they were minor.
Asked what had happened and the rider told me he had hit a cow. There is open range here in this area so the cows have the right of way. He had less than 250 miles on his new bike and had gone out for a ride. Coming up canyon, a cow suddenly ran in front of him and he couldn't avoid the collision.
Bike was scraped up, handlebars bent and the rider had an injured right arm and leg. The tow truck loaded the Dyna and the rider up and headed to the city.
Reminder - Heads up out there, the animals have no respect for us. Slow down and give them room.
This one was easy, minor injuries and minor damage. There have been much worse.
I live 1000 feet from Cuyahoga National Park. Deer, Deer and more Deer. Ihave hit 2 with the Suburban and the wife almost totalled a Dodge Durango on a 250lb Buck! Several hundred hits a year and some by bikers. You gotta be careful out there
I had been riding with the guy who hit the deer about two weeks earlier. He has 200,000+ miles logged on various HD's he's owned over the years. Just goes to show that no matter how experienced, the unexpected (especially animals) can get you!
I agree FireHawk. Since we're on the subject of bike vs. animal...anyone ever had encounters with other animals? What was the critter' and the outcome?
