My suggestion is to find a good independent shop. I was quoted a price of $100.00 for a rejet at the dealer, they could get to it in 2 weeks. A place in Hope Mills, about a 15 minute ride away told me $30.00 and 30 minutes, right now. Guess who did my rejet.

I have a local dealer (McCoy's 5 miles) that totally sucks *** when it comes to everything H-D. I would drive out to the next closest dealer (Doc's 20 miles) who treated his customers as they should be treated, like the money in the bank. Then about 2-3 years ago we got a dealers customizing shop in town and I've been there for everything I need because I've been to their shop (Vandervest 50 miles) and was treated the same as Doc's treats his customers.

Bottom line, shop around till you find somebody worth your money.

Better yet if you are considering letting them work on your bike, buy a manual and some tools and do it yourself. &nbsp\\;

Well, my local dealer is *awesome*. Yellowstone HD. They're not the cheapest, but they're here, they're local, and they know me and my wife by name. I've never had an issue with my local dealer. IN fact, going there is always a good time, they'll take the time to chat, even when the sales floor is getting crowded. And they have done a lot of service "favors" for me and don't charge me, and even wash the bike every time I bring it in for those "favors". They're the only dealer for over a hundred miles and don't have to be as nice as they are, but they are. They're great. I've met folks who ride in from Billings (where they have a bigger HD dealer) to get their service done there.

That said, the local Kawasaki/Yamaha dealer is a cheaper place to buy helmets, jackets, etc. The quality of the "motorclothes" they carry (Joe Rocket, Icon, Cortech/Tourmaster) is far superior to HD-branded stuff for a fraction of the cost. They also order parts/add-ons from the same catalogs (Drag Specialties, Kuryakyn, etc.) and are a lot cheaper 'cuz they don't mark it up and even offer instant rebates on multiple purchases (yes, they will order stuff for Harleys). Their tire prices are often as cheap as online prices and they will mount tires for free (if you buy from them), and they charge about half of what the HD dealer charges to change all the oil (my bike is still under warranty, so I get my service work done at the HD dealer, but I know other HD riders who use the Kawi shop for simple stuff). The folks who work there tend to be younger, but nice kids all the same.

Sometimes you just need to get something for cheap\\; sometimes you need the Harley-specific knowledge base. You decide what has value for you.

But if my dealer was like the OP's description of his and there is another dealer within, say, two hours, I'd take my business elsewhere. There's no reason to accept bad service for what HD dealers charge. None.

Ever get bad service at a "chain" restaurant, found one Sears store to be better than another?&nbsp\\; There are good dealers and bad dealers.&nbsp\\; Keep in mind, they are run by people and all people are different, so you can expect differences in dealerships or any other businees for that matter.

ORIGINAL: *NIGHT TRAIN*

Same old story, there's good and bad everywhere, and it's like the news, only the bad stuff makes the headlines...
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
I use a dealer called Baxter's in southern Ohio...yes, they're always busy this time of year, same as everyone else...I called last week, needing a new rear tire for my Train...it was about noon, and they told me if I could get it there by 3:30 they'd take care of me...charged me 3/4 of a $55/hour rate, when everyone else wanted a flat 1 and 1/2 hours at $70 per...also saved $25 on the tire...
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
You gotta shop around, good dealers are out there...
&nbsp\\;
$55/hour rate????!!!!&nbsp\\; holy chit that cheap

for the most part I find them like a clerk told me. This clerk was studying and I ask how it was going? his reply was if these customers would leave it would be a good job. I ask if he thought the job would last long without the customers he said I don't care. So I did not bother him with a purchase.

My experience has been that once they get your money for the bike, they don't want to know you.&nbsp\\; One of the local dealers sells a trailer that I wanted when I bought my bike.&nbsp\\; I inquired about&nbsp\\;a&nbsp\\;discount on the trailer since I bought my bike from them. NO dice.&nbsp\\; Retail or no go.&nbsp\\; If I hadn't just handed them $19K cash, I would have went elsewhere for the bike even if it meant paying a little more. You'll never see me or my bike at a company store.&nbsp\\;
