I was a service tech for chevrolet for 17 years. Chevy had its problems,, we never treated our customers as if they were crazy. I hope this was a one time bad experience.
Well...that sounds just like every Chevrolet dealer I've ever had the misfortune to do business with...(that's normal)
Thanks all for your input. I want you all to know by no means was i bad mouthing Harley Davidson. I wanted some insite to the customer service attitude from a few dealers.
I think you just hit a bad dealer, I have never had an experience where I could say the people were rude. \\; Sometimes when you visit different dealers that don't know you they tend to be a little stand offish. \\; Maybe they were just havin' a bad day, we all have 'em.
I fully agree with those that suggested getting the service manual. \\; Most things can be done by anyone. \\; There is nothing to doing the oil changes. \\; Replaceing grips, cables, bars, Checking wheel bearings, headset, belt tension are all simple tasks. \\; Even changing the tires. \\; Just putting a set of tires on my bike saved $500 over the dealers quote. \\; I got them for 235 shipped free and no sales tax from Drag Specialies. \\; The dealer wanted one hour labor for ea. tire and $360 for the tires plus tax.
How to brake the bead easy and cheap? \\; Anywhere that you have a bare stud wall like in the garage. \\; Drill through the stub about 20 inches up. \\; Get a 4' stick of 2x4 and bolt it near its end to the stud loosely so it will pivot. \\; Then about a foot or little less out drill a through hole and bolt a short maybe about 18 inch 2x4 to it. \\; Place cardboard on the floor. \\; Put the tire and rim under it and push down near the bead. \\; Get the idea? Leverage man. \\; Don't need no fancy tire changing thingy. \\; Then use good old fashioned tire spoons like your granddad did.
I keep up four motorcycles and five vehicles. \\; The dealers have not seen them since I bought them. \\; Now I have been told by many over the years that I was not very bright. \\; So if I can do it so \\; can you. \\; Now go have fun and save big$$$$$.
The new set up over at Granite State in Lebanon,NH is excellent. \\;

The old managment refused to do any work on my HD because it was old.

I've run into the same issue a my local HD dealer. They won't work on old iron and they seem to enjoy telling people this. \\; Thank God we have 2 great Indy's in our area where I can get parts, advise and mechanical help when needed.
I recently received a "Ownership Experience Survey" in the mail from the HD corporate office. There is a space to enter your dissatisfaction with any dealer. I entered my gripe with a dealer there. I received another letter after I sent it in thanking me for my comments. I don't know if it did any good but, I felt that I had the opportunity speak my mind.
