I gotta say I don't think I've ever met anyone who wears earplugs when they ride...can't think of why I'd need them?
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\;
I was in the same boat until I started hanging with some guys who do some real distance riding.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; I was skeptical at first, but man, they really are great for the highway.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; Don't knock it til you try it.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\; Most savvy touring riders use them all the time.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
I HAVE used them, and tried different styles, don't like them...
and I've seen savvy touring riders...windshields, wrap around fairings, touring paks, heat shields, back rests, intercom systems, gps, etc. etc, everything but a bubble with heat, A/C and doors around the bikes...no offense meant, just IMHO, but if I need all that savvy ****, I'll drive my truck...see my signature....[8D]

Wonder which state will be the first to enact a&nbsp\\;mandatory ear protection law.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;

Wish I could have my cake and eat it too. Hate the wind roar with a passion. I want to listen to my bike with no wind roar and I dont want the sound of the pipes muffled at all. Thats just too much to ask!

And to think of all those years I let my dogs ride in my truck with their heads out the windows with no ear plugs...
&nbsp\\;
Speaking of dogs, mine got hit in the eye with something while riding with his head out the window and lost most of the sight in his eye. I felt like crap after it happened. He could see shadows move but couldn't see me if I came up on him slowly.

These two are the best that money can buy - http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/honobr.html or http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/...4306/sesent/00 . They both use the Hocks Noise BrakerÂŽ Filter, which attenuates everything to 85db. What's really nice about them is that you still hear most everything! You can even have a conversation with someone while wearing them, unlike foam earplugs which basically attenuate everything. Give them a try and you'll be hooked! You still get to hear the music from your engine, while the annoying wind noise is attenuated.

Unfortunately, facts will not confuse anyone who has already made up their "mind", whether it's ear protection or anything else.

I've done loud things all my life (hot rods w/open headers, etc, etc,).&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; I now have "tennitus": A constant ringing in my ears.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; No big deal?&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; Think again. I am a Certified Locomotive Engineer for a railroad.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; There is a periodical mandatory hearing test in order to remain certified.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; My hearing is now borderline.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; So, my livelihood is at stake.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; Who'd a thought that when I was young and stupid with my head under the hood of a revving smallblock with open headers?
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
I now wear hearing protection when doing my "loud" things, including&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;always wearing ear plugs when riding the Deuce.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; I'm trying desperately to save what hearing I have left.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
Go ahead, keep on ignoring&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;the thought of protecting your hearing... it will go away eventually.

Yeap, I have the same problem - years of riding a motorcycle, loud music and shooting guns have taken their toll.&nbsp\\;Tennitus is tough to put up with - constant ringing in your ears, never a moment of quiet.&nbsp\\;

At this point in my life I am trying to save what is left of my hearing - I always put in my custom ear plugs before I start the motor.

&nbsp\\;
Doesn't have anything to do with "confusion" or "making up a mind"...it's just called freedom of choice...
&nbsp\\;
It's been my experience here and on other boards, that those who choose not to wear a helmet, ear plugs or full riding gear with body armor don't post about their choice and question the motives of others who choose to do those things...
&nbsp\\;
It's the ones who DO&nbsp\\;those things who post and take issue with those who choose NOT to...a little respect, please...live and let live...[8D]&nbsp\\;
