Well I was getting ready recently to go to the ROT Rally and figured I'd better check oil level on my 06 Fatboy since it had been sitting a while. Pulled out dipstick and PANICKED when it registered nothing on it. Couldn't figue out where the oil had went since there had never been any kind of leak showing on the concrete floor in the shop it stays parked or any oil on the engine. So I jumped in the ole truck and headed to my local stealer 20 miles away and purchased 3 qts of liquid gold(Syn3) and headed home. I then proceeded to add a quart plus just a little more to get the level where it should be(so I thought). Went to the rally and had a good time and some fantastic rides around the beautiful hill country. Got home and couple of days later while cleaning my bike once again checked oil to only find that it was WAY too full. I used a turkey baster to get it back down between the lines. Nothing harmed but I've learned something from the experience. Crank the bike and let it come to operating temperature, then turn it off and THEN check the oil level before adding any. Guess that's why they have owners manual thet you should read? Just thought I'd pass this bone head along.
Like you, I discovered this problem the same way you did. \\; You have a Evo right? \\; Seems the oil sumps into the crankcase, so it is a good idea to run it for a few minutes and then check it. \\; Found the same thing happened on my youngest son's Buell. \\; \\; Check the stick, was dry. \\; I was darn sure it was full, didn't see any puddles on the floor so I cranked \\; it up and then checked it...dead on the money. Dont think it to be an issue with the TC as the pan is below the crank case.

Good thread!

He has an '06 Fatboy. \\; Fatboy oil bags haven't moved, they still sit higher than the engine.
 \\;
you drove 20 miles each way to buy syn 3???????????????
lol lol lol lol
Id sooner fill my oil bag with dog **** than run that crap
 \\;\\\\\\;
Been running syn3 for over 10000 miles and never had any problems with my bike. Bike runs a lot cooler and have sat in parades without any problems with the engine \\;over heating. Have you ever tried it? Did you have a bad experience with it?
I switched from Syn 3 to Mobil 1 synthetic 20w-50. \\; Supposed to be superior. \\; I really doubt it makes any real difference but I'm using Mobil 1 from now on. \\; \\; I put Redline synthetic transmission fluid in and synthetic in the primary.
