Most of my bikes haven't had a tach, and if it was that necessary, every&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;bike made would have one...it's a good indicator for tuning and diagnostics, but I've been riding by the seat of my pants since 1967...if you can't tell by the feel and your ears when you're over revving or lugging, you might be in trouble...

on heavier bikes 1500 is way too low. I try to not go below 2000 in any gear except 1st ( I have a tach ). No wonder people are whining about drivetrain racket
&nbsp\\;
you don't really need a tach...you can go by sound, unless you're one of those who think chugging ( almost lugging ) a harley is cool&nbsp\\;

If you add throttle and your bike is a little slow to exccelerate, likely RPMs are too low for what you are doing. I think oil pressure and battery charge best above 2000 RPMs

2K to 5.5k is operation rpm for your harley. 8K is the red line speed for the harley. People lug there bike have more problems than a person that run the hell out of them. The back lash on slow rpm just brakes more rods than run them at the higher rpm's. So many people put all that motor work in them and try to ride to slow. Just to look cool.

3k - 3500rpm, this way you can get out of trouble a little easier if a cager decides you should share your lane.
