One time I stopped at the gas station and when I pulled up and got off the bike a guy next to me says, " well, it's not every day you see a guy in a tie riding a chopper!". I told him that my bike didn't pay for itself.

I agree, and suspect it might not be fellow bikers you are concerned about. I think the riding community is more concerned about riding and less about what we wear while doing so. As far as the rest of the people go, I seriously doubt they care or even notice. I say wear what you want, enjoy yourself and ride safe.
