Wiseguy, I'll have to remember that... Is that why the t-shirts cost 25 bucks?
Thanks for the responses guys. I'm going to take the course and see what I'm comfortable with. Worst case scenario I'll buy a used metric to ride for a couple months.
To be honest, most of the stuff you can get aftermarket that is better and cheaper.
 \\;
That's just one man's opinion. I used to buy aftermarket crap to save a few bucks, but now, after learning the hard way, I keep my bike 100% Harley. You get what you pay for.

If you buy a metric, all of your friends will ask "How come you didn't get a Harley?"
 \\;
Buy a bike that you feel comfortable on. The decision as to what model rests solely with you.
Not very experienced here myself, I take my MSF course next weekend. \\; Excited and can't wait. \\; I already have bought my bike and it is sitting in the garage waiting on me. \\;Dyna Super Glide Custom.  \\;Read many posts about buying a starter bike to begin with and also many posts of people saying to get what you want and are comfortable with. \\; I wanted something that I was going to have around for along time cause I didn't want to deal with selling or trading in to "upgrade" later. \\; Everyone of us are different and you have to decide for yourself what is the most comfortable choice for you. \\; Good luck in your decision.
Get your license,  \\;find a dealer that will let you test ride serval models. \\; What ever you buy you will progress faster than you think if you practice riding. \\; You will do fine. \\; I started \\;riding again after 35 years started again on a Ultra. My wife started on a Sportster 1200L and then went to a Honda 250 and now back on the harley. \\; My 29 year old son took the MSF class and bought a 2008 Ultra. \\; It is up to you. \\; Buy a Harley so you too can spend a lot of money on shiney stuff.
at your size i would suggest going with a dyna or softail, although not much bigger than a sporty (4 inch wheelbase), they do offer more of a bike with a bigger engine and weight. you can look at the rockers, which have a little more stretch to them. good luck and let us know what you go with, pics too!
