Newbie Question: Screamin Eagle
Hey guys, I am planning on getting my first bike this fall. I'm falling in love with Harleys, but don't have any biker friends to explain this stuff to me....
What's the significance of the Screamin Eagle? Is that what Harley calls their line of add-ons, or is every Harley motorcycle that rolls off the assembly line a "screamin eagle"?? I noticed all the CVO models are called screamin eagles.. Is it what they call the 110 cubic inch motor?

The Screaming eagle engines are either 103's or 110's. If you buy a CVO you will get a 110. If you do the bolt on kit on a 96, it will be a 103. You can also get a stage I air breather, slip on mufflers, transmission, and other misc parts. Just go to WWW.Harleydavidson.com. Go to the section that says shop for your bike and there is a section for Screaming Eagle stuff. To be honest, most of the stuff you can get aftermarket that is better and cheaper.

Welcome to the site. Screaming Eagle is HDs line of performance parts. Screaming eagle or CVO bikes are limited production upgraded bikes from the HD factory. They usually pick 4 or so models to release as screaming eagle bikes.

BoneCrusher, nice bike! Do you think a first time rider could be safe on a Deuce/softail? Or should I go with something smaller? The Harley salesman says I'll be fine starting with a "big bike"... Though I know some people recommend learning on something lighter/less powerful. My problem is I'm 6'1 so I don't fit very well on smaller bikes.

My wife had never ridden a mc. She took the beginning msf course on their 250 honda, then took the intermediate course on our Deuce. She did great.

She now rides a Wide Glide which is taller and longer than the Deuce.

Don't forget, wearing a screaming eagle shirt adds 5 horsepower!!!! J/K
The sportsters are actually faster than 'big bikes' cause they're lighter and have decent power.
Start with the bike you want if you can afford it, if you go with something else you'll regret it in the long run.

Which dealership did you visit? \\; I agree, get whatever fits you comfortably, and is in your price range. \\; People think Sportsters are starter bikes, but that depends on the person. \\; Take a riders class, and after you get your license, go for whatever tickles your fancy.
