In my opinion, I think there should be a helmet law in every state.
That's my opinion.
.
Wear a helmet if you choose, don't wear one if you choose, but don't choose for me unless you are willing to have me make choices for you.

Bill
Not to cause an argument or anything...
I do agree that helmets are the way to go... Sometimes I am stupid and wear my novelty helmet when crusing locally... Most of the time I wear a full-face.
But... There are a lot of things that are bad for you and you have to decide if you want to take that risk... Riding a motorcycle is one of them. If you CHOOSE to ride a motorcycle with or without a helmet, you are making a choice that can put your life in grave danger. A helmet does up your odds of survival better but it is up to the individual (imho) to make the choice of how they want to gace that danger.
And you can use the same argument for seat belts... Seat Belts do save a lot of lives... But they have also caused severe injuries too... You just don't hear about it because telling people that seat belts can cause decapitation goes against the click it or ticket campaign that is making money for the states...
We live in a world were if you had 10000 people 5 of them want to tell everyone else how they should be/act/behave. Maybe 50% (probably a lot lower) of those people want to be told and the other 50% (probably a lot higher) want to be left alone to choose what they want.
A helmet is the right choice for me... but if the guy next to me wants to go without... it is his/her decision as an adult.
My favorite is the person with the full-face helmet wearing no shirt, cut off jeans, and flip flops on a bagger... WTF? So if we are going to start saying that EVERYONE has to wear a helmet why not tell everyone that they have to wear full leathers? Should they wear them? Probably... Do they have to? No... not legally. In 90 degree heat in NC I will wear my leather jacket, my gloves, my boots, and jeans... I have NEVER ridden ANY bike with shorts... Others do... They are being silly... but it is their choice. I don't think the government should tell them what to do either.
I think we have bigger problems on the roads than helmet laws.
Outlaw the use of handheld cell phones in cars and then come back to me with the helmet thing... Just who the hell do you have to talk to on the phone at 6am in the morning?
And btw... this is not aimed at lil_gmac or anyone else here.. just my $0.02

I agree 100% !!!!
I will defend your right to not wear a helmet, but I am gonna call you an idiot for not wearing one.
I think the point is that we're all grown ups and don't need the government or anyone else to decide what risks we are willing and aren't willing to take.
I personally wear a helmet - but I don't like anyone telling me I have to.
If you want to get that way - then why aren't you saying there should be a law forcing you to wear long pants when you mow your lawn, or safety goggles when you use a weed wacker, or wear a life vest any time you get in a boat, or wearing gloves when you work on your bike...
The point is - lot's of people DO the things listed above for safetey concerns - and that's great - but do you want the government to tell you that you HAVE to do so?
No offense to anyone who wants helmet laws in every state - I'm a big boy and I don't need you or the government worrying about me when it comes to motorcycle helmets.

Mowing grass or wearing a life vest isn't a split second disaster, like a motorcycle accident is.

As far as your pulling out or the forum, that also is a personal choice. Feel free to do what is best for you.

That being said, I don't think that there should a helmet law in any state. I personally wear a full face, but only because I am too cheap to get LASIK and I can't find googles to fit over my glasses. I will probably always wear a fullface on the interstate, but if I could cruise around the sidestreets without one, I would.

I must have missed the article that said all 18 of the dead would be alive and kicking if they'd only been wearing a helmet.
I know that many of us on here are pretty adamant about wearing a helmet, but don't let imprecise editorializing by someone who's probably never been on a bike (the cartoonist, not Alazo) get in the way of remembering that the government loves to restrict freedoms... but only for our own good, of course.
