The government is regulating the crap out of everybody anyway nowadays. Wether is helmets, air bags, emissions or whatever. Just to many do gooders telling everyone else how to live their lives.
I wear a helmet most of the time, but on occasion, when in Pennsylvania, I have gone without a helmet. Sure feels nice. If I crash and a helmet could have saved my life, that's on me, BUT I do feel sorry for my loved ones that have to clean up the messes, like the hospital bill that insurance (if you have any) wont cover, funeral expenses, etc. plus the pain they have to deal with the rest of their lives.
The choice not to wear a helmet when you have loved ones, like children, is a selfish one but a choice nonetheless.
If the states are having to pick up the tabs for us becoming road pizza, I can understand that position, but in the end we are all paying for it anyway with our tax $$$ footing that bill.

These kind,s of subjects go nowhere...no one is telling anyone what to do here. Why all the defensive comments.?...I to ,am pulling out of the forum .I will only touch on tcstd,s diy sections occasionally.
You'll find the same thing in any discussion. Just look thru the other topics. If you don't use a PClll, a SERT, or whatever, your wrong. Got ape handlebars or not, your wrong. Trailer your bike for whatever reason and some turd will call you down. Forums are filled with self proclaimed no it all's. Mostly, I sit in the shadows.

How about this - The government stays out of it but you would you pay extra money towards insurance to NOT wear a Helmet to make up for the extra medical bills etc...

OFF TOPIC....

You know... the crownvic.net board had a bunch of guys that would jump in and scream at people for talking about stuff they did not like or that was talked about before..

They are called DISCUSSION BOARDS for a reason. So what if people want to talk all the time about helmets, SERTs, PCIIIs, etc... don't read the post... or stop checking back in on that post that disgusts you to see what other people are still saying about it.

I just don't understand... And least this place has not gotten **** about using search... If a board has been around long enough and everyone just keeps yelling, "run a search!" all the time, why make the board writeable? Just make it read only... Apparently everything has been said.

And this is the CHAT forum... New people join and odds are they want to "talk" about what other people may or may not have talked about six months ago. So what? I ride my bike to work on i-40 all the time... should i stop doing that since I have done it before? What happens when I have ridden all the roads around here... Do I stop riding? Same thing...

This is NOT a slam on you (or anyone else in particular) Snarly... I just find it odd when people complain about discussions on forums... Some of us just like to talk more than others. [sm=bounceybounce.gif]

Works for me if it applies to all the other things that people do that are insurance burdens or self destructive.

If you are obese you pay extra, if you smoke or drink you pay extra, if you have no proof of regular exercise you pay extra. If you have an unplanned pregnancy or STD you pay extra. If you drive drunk you go to PRISON.

There are just too many issues that are more pressing to worry about than a very, very, very small percentage of the population not wearing a helmet. 30 to 40 % of the population are overweight to the point of creating major medical problems, I would guess that less that .01% of the population ride motorcycles, with or without helmets.

There are many more smokers than there are motorcycle riders, and they affect more than just themselves. There are a million + babies killed a year that never have a chance to live. That choice is acceptable, and riding without a helmet isn't??

I am not going to say more on this. If it keeps going the way it is, it will get locked for getting too political.

Regards,

Bill

Your reply here is just what I'm talking about. You need to read quotes and replies and understand what people are really saying. I didn't say I didn't like to read and respond to threads with good information, I said the place was full of responders with negativity, misinformation and misunderstanding. Nuff said.

I liked Billnourse's answer. Makes perfect sense to me.

If we don't band together as riders, fighting that which should be our own decision, we soon will be denied fatty food, alcohol, tobacco, sex and probably TV. All of which have been to shown to be somewhat detrimental to us in one way or another.

Who says the government is supposed to make sure every second of our life is spent without risk? Who would even want to live a life devoid of any and all risk? No one that ever rode a bike ever assumed that good ole Uncle Sam had already made the ride perfectly safe.

It worries me that some of us are not only adamant about wearing their helmets, but feel the need to question the intelligence of those that don't. If safety is our main concern when riding, we'd never get on anything as dangerous as a bike in the first place.

I think it's sad that some people think the government can fix anything. "When bikes are outlawed, well, you'll have created a whole bunch more outlaws."

Let's not even joke about that... [sm=happybounce.gif]

I must have missed the article that said all 18 of the dead would be alive and kicking if they'd only been wearing a helmet.

I know that many of us on here are pretty adamant about wearing a helmet, but don't let imprecise editorializing by someone who's probably never been on a bike (the cartoonist, not Alazo) get in the way of remembering that the government loves to restrict freedoms... but only for our own good, of course.
I love all this helmet banter. I look at it this way. Most people feel compelled to insure their investment's and that's a good thing, right? I feel everyone should figure out what their head is worth and act accordingly. If there's not much up there, why worry about it. jmo

I’m with Snarly, I also love the delta of opinions on the helmet issue and think everyone should figure out for themselves what their own melon is worth.

I’ll tell you what I really love though, (and this is something I don’t often hear in helmet law discussions) the guy who screams freedom to choose all day and then gets in his car and does what…that’s right, puts on his seatbelt.[sm=confused06.gif] Why does he put on his seatbelt…that’s right, because it’s the law. That’s not to say it is a good or bad law, but just another one that governs our vehicular safety(?).
