I know how you feel, but I would give it back too. \\; You don't know what problems it could cause your wife at work if you kept it, even if you legally had a right to keep it.

If you can financially handle giving her the deposit back without selling your bike, then that's what I'd do. \\; If not, I would explain that you put the money down on another bike, don't have the 500 until the bike sells, but you promise to give it to her when you do. \\; As long as you're honest then I think that's ok. \\; And if you can't give her the money back until you sell your bike, you'll have somebody else helping you sell your bike.

Consider this.How soon would the item that you buy with that 500 become just another thing compared to how long your wife would have to endure a bad relationship at work.
