I have an 06 Fatboy converted to a trike....I should have marked my dipstick before doing conversion because 05 and 06 oil is checked on the side stand.......of course now it is always checked in the up right position like pre 05 softtails with solid dipstick....I was going to try to use an earlier style dipstick but was told it is a different diamater (too small).
I changed my oil and filter, had the side case open to replace the cams so I figured it should be close too empty...06 should take 3 1/2 quarts. I put in a little less....about 3 1/4 and it was so full it blew the dipstickout along with some oil the first time I rode it.
Sorry for the long winded post but I have no idea where would be a safe level on the dipstick now!
So if anyone with an 05 or an 06 Fatboy could please make sure that your oil is in the safe area and then check it again with the bike in the upright position and then take a picture of where the oil level is on the dipstick. That way I have something to go by, since HD spec. is no help. I will file a new mark on my dipstick.
Also if any 05 - 06 softtail trike owners have a suggestion on what they do, please let me know.
Jack up the right side of the bike unitil its has the same
lean as when on the kickstand, and check the stick then.
It might get you a ballpark reading to start with.
Just a thought

Thanks for the suggestion......I tried that but because of the wide rear axle it lifts the back of the bike up as it leans ......no way to get an acurate reading......but thanks for trying....
I'm off to work but if no one has helped you by the time I get home in the morning I'll snap a pic for you.
1of2.........That would be wonderful....I'm kinda at my wits end here...I can't get out and ride much due to disability and all the Fatboys I have been able to come in contact with have been pre 05 models with the old style dipstick.............If I don't get an answer from someone else, your help would be greatly appreciated......
