Any suggestions? I was originally thinking of putting some kind of thick diamondplate to stick out about a foot from the end of the tailgate. I am 80" from the box to the very end of the gate. Its just not enough. The center of the rear wheel would be on the very end of the tailgate. Then I could just use ramps. Im very open for suggestions.
bolt down a piece of channel 90" long and go have fun.
Not a bad idea. Especially if I can get a heavy gauge aluminum. I can get one of those locking wheel chocks and mount the channel. Any suggestions how to mount the channel where its easily removable?

That's the payload range for an 07 Ram depending on your config. However, I have an '07 with towing package and if I remember correctly, the max dead tongue weight on it is only #750. #650 Night only leaves you #100 for the carry system. Pretty touch and go, as you are into the safety factor on that one.
I'm confused. Maybe I don't understand. The max tongue weight may be 700 pounds but the trailer is carrying most of the weight. If properly balanced the tongue weight should be fine. My trailer has a gross weight of 3,000 pounds but that is PLUS the tongue weight of 700 pounds. So, with proper balance I can carry 3700 pounds gross. The gross weight of the trailer is the wheels and axles and bearings.
My late model F150 4x4 has a gross towing capacity of 9,500 pounds. My trailer weighs about 500pounds, two bikes weigh about 1500 pounds and I am no where near gross with 2 bikes on my trailer.
You don't have to jam the bikes all the way to the front if it creats too much tongue weight. A lot has to do with the length of the trailer and the placement of the trailer wheels fore or aft under the frame.

I have a long bed F-250 and am considering modifying my tool box with a notch in it for the front wheel to fit partially into. You might be able to do that with your short bed and just beef up your tailgate to support the back end of your bike.

If you read the original post you will see that we are not talking about towing a trailer or carring the bike in bed.
From the back of my toolbox to the VERY END of my tailgate is 80".
From the front of the front tire to the center of the rear wheel is exactly 80". Its not big enough. The center of the rear wheel would be half on the gate and half off.
Also, I emailed the company, that I put the link on in my original post, about my concern with overloading the max dead tongue weight of my truck. He told me he has the same exact truck as me and has hauled numerous Softails with no issues at all.
Im not sure what to do.
