I knew it was getting very thin when I checked it before leaving Sturgis... This is what I saw the next morning in Billings MT.

No excuses, I was stupid to try and get another mile and I was lucky it held together... When I think about the days ride between Sturgis and Billings... I was lucky...

I think you got every mile out of that one, plus one more. lucky that one did not leave you walking.

Don't feel bad, you're not the first I've seen that underestimated how much rubber was left before a long trip. I ride with a group every year (most of them anyway) and we've had a several times when we got half way through the trip and discovered that the rear tire wasn't going to make it.

I'm glad you discovered that before you hit the road again. It gave you the chance to take care of things. Just remember, the last half of the tread wear on motorcycle tires always goes away 3x faster than the first half does!

I feel your pain. I had an emergency tire change last Tuesday. Cords sticking through
And I'm 60 miles from home. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. Took me three hours after I got home. I broke it down with a couple pieces of wood and a car for a fulcrom. That and a couple screwdrivers. Trick I learned on here.
Brute force and determination you can get by.

The last rubber on a tire goes very quickly - seems like once it reaches a certain point it goes really fast at the end of a tire's life.
